Hello and welcome to my blog!
I remember being a young child standing in my grandmother’s kitchen when she said to me, “Desi, you have a champagne taste on a beer budget”. It wasn’t until I was older when I understood what she meant…or how dead-on she was about me. Grandma’s observation has often felt like a curse; a black cloud hanging over my head. Lucky for me, stubbornness and creativity flow through my veins. I may have higher standards than I do income, but I make do.
It recently dawned on me that (mostly) because of my curse I have spent a good percentage of my life pouting from being unable (or sometimes unwilling) to hand over the money an item’s price tag demanded. Yet, I have no shame, because it is in these self-taken timeouts where I get ideas to get my way. There is power in the pout, people. Plus, there is a very satisfying high that comes from “sticking it to the man”.
The idea for this blog comes from a wise friend noticing my knack for thrifty show-and-tell on Facebook.
I am in my early 30s and am 5 ft 9 in. (height info is useful for style photos). I became “Mom” to my giant preteen son and daughter when I was young. They are home schooled. Over the past decade I have adopted 3 cats and 3 dogs. I have had my own successful house cleaning side gig for about seven years.
This lifestyle blog serves as my journal where I write about my clearance, sales, and thrift finds; upcycling; DIY; recipes; and cleaning tips that come from both necessity and fun.
I hope people can relate, laugh, and pick up useful tips for their lifestyle.
I look forward to your comments!
